NPower Among Top 10 Finalists in Agritech Innovation Challenge

VANCOUVER, B.C. — NPower Clean Tech is pleased to announce success in demonstrating its inexpensive nutrient (nitrogen and phosphorus) management solution which can recover nutrients from manure and utilize them as concentrated fertilizer for dairy farms and other agricultural operations.

In August, our practical Phosphorus trap solution for dairy farms and other agricultural operations was selected as 1 of the top 10 finalists at Agritech Innovation Challenge in British Columbia this year as part of a highly competitive selection process.

Our proposed solution in summary

NPower Clean Tech develops simple Phosphorus traps to help dairy farms to reduce the targeted amount of Phosphorus (adjusting P/N ratio of manure through maximized phosphorus & minimized nitrogen adsorption/recovery by the trap/adsorbent) in their manure to meet their crop nutrient needs in nearby fields while preventing over-application of phosphorus & nutrient runoff.

With this practical solution, NPower Clean Tech eliminates costly manure transportation and storage requirements for dairy farms due to excess phosphorus in the manure.

Unlike large-size and expensive mechanical and chemical technologies, NPower’s solution is practical and low-cost to implement and operate at any size dairy farm. It can be built as a stationary unit or as a mobile unit to serve many farms. The end product is a high value concentrated fertilizer and soil amendment which can be applied to nearby fields and gardens or sold as a nutrient component for soil blends, to greenhouses, compost facilities or other industry to create extra revenue streams for dairy farms.

About the challenge

The Ministry of Agriculture works collaboratively with B.C.’s agriculture and seafood industries to improve the sustainability and security of B.C.’s food supply by improving production methods and ensuring the highest standards in animal care and food safety. The Ministry, in partnership with Innovate BC, presents the Agritech Innovation Challenge to identify the best technology to solve big business problems and is seeking technology, science or knowledge put into practical use to bring forth innovate solutions or invent useful tools.
